Attorney Matthew Fischer focuses his practice on family law and divorce. He began practicing family law while interning with a firm that focused on that area, and found that he really enjoyed working with people and helping resolve the legal issues related to the family relationships. After graduating law school and passing the state bar exam he opened up his own practice working predominantly with family law clients. After several years of solo practice, he joined Burke Law Group, due to this firm's local prominence in family law matters.
Matt’s approach to his practice is to focus on what is in the best interest of his clients. He spends the necessary one-on-one time with his clients to determine what their needs are and what will be best for them. Matt believes that it is extremely important for clients to establish a relationship with their attorney. This allows both the attorney and the client to work better together allowing the attorney to efficiently accomplish the goals of the client.
Matt understands the immense importance and care that is needed when handling a family law case. He and his wife are the parents of four children. This allows him to comprehend the complexities and the range of feelings that occur in the lives of his clients.
Matt is also a Pro Tem Commissioner with the Spokane County Superior Court. In this position he periodically presides in court, deciding cases and issuing orders that are most often related to family law issues.
Besides his work as an attorney, Matt stays busy being involved in the legal community. Before starting his own practice he spent several months volunteering on a full-time basis with the Volunteer Lawyer’s Program (“VLP”), which coordinates and provides free or low cost legal advise and representation to low income residents in the local community. He continues to volunteer his time with the VLP as often as possible. While running his own practice Matt also managed the Spokane County GAAP (Greater Assistance and Access Program). This program provided legal assistance at a reduced expense to members of the community who normally couldn’t afford an attorney. As a result of this position Matt has been asked to speak at various forums regarding his experience providing access to legal assistance for underprivileged individuals. Matt also served on the Board of Trustees for the Spokane Young Lawyers Division.
Matt is involved in many church and community activities as well. He helps coach youth basketball and baseball teams and is a Cub Scout den leader for wolf Cub Scouts.
